ANIMAL REHABILITATION COURSE
As an advanced progression course, participants of the Animal
Rehabilitation course must have completed a relevant course with
some practical skills in animal handling, husbandry and management
such as the ELISTA Education Animal
Welfare Foundation Course.
Course Overview:
As a progression course from studies in Animal Welfare the Animal
Rehabilitation Course specifically deals with the ways in which
animals may need to be physically and psychologically rehabilitated.
The course provides the learner with the skills to recognise stress
signals in all manner of animals and how to respond accurately
and appropriately in care giving and rehabilitation. Further more
the course explores animal rescue in Ireland and abroad and discusses
responsible and ethical animal centred re-homing.
Course Content:
The course covers the following four modules, with both domestic
and wild animal examples. Practical Skills and Competencies are
integrated into course content through practical training weekends:
- Animal Welfare Review (for non-ELISTA graduate participants)
- Animal Rescue
(including Handling, First Aid, Documenting, Legalities, Housing,
Kennel and Cattery Management, Wild Animal Management)
- Animal Rehabilitation
(including Animal Assessment, Animal Communication, Physical
and Psychological Rehabilitation)
- Animal Re-homing or Release
(including choosing release site, time etc, matching animals
with re-homers, recording and monitoring animals)
- Running a Rehabilitation Business
Course Delivery:
The course is delivered primarily as a home study course, with
2 workshop style weekends. Assessments are continuous written
and practical. Practical dates to be confirmed.
Course Fee:
Total course fee for ELISTA Education Animal Welfare (or other
foundation course) graduates making progression within 2 years
is €500 (no early bird discount applicable). For applicants who
wish to register for the advanced progression course in Animal
Rehabilitation having completed no previous training with ELISTA
Education, but other relevant studies, the course fee is €900
(€750 with ‘early bird’ offer for applicants registering before
1st June 2020).
Availability:
There are 12 places available on the Animal Rehabilitation Course.
If you have completed an Animal Welfare Course (for example the
QQI/FETAC Level 5 Animal Welfare C20152 module), with a different
provider, or a course you feel is equivalent, then please complete
the MAP20 Application form (including section C) available for download
below.
