HUMAN - ANIMAL INTERACTIONS COURSE
Course Aim:
The aim of the Human Animal Interactions Course is to allow participants
the opportunity to explore how animals were and are utilised by
humans; how interactions with animals vary depending on social
and cultural differences and how society has and does benefit
through the use of and interactions with animals. The course includes
research into the industries and sectors that utilise animals
for various purposes and encourages evaluation of animal well
being to work towards a society that utilises animals in a mutually
beneficial way. Upon completion of the course participants should
be able to understand how animals can be ethically used for human
benefits.
Course Delivery:
The Human Animal Interactions Course is currently available as
a home study course with two practical training weekends. Home
Study material is available from 5th October 2020 and combined
practical training weekends takes place on 12th-13th February 2021 and 4th and 5th June 2021.
Course Content:
The Human Animal Interactions Course is made up of six modules:
- Evaluating the use of Animals in Society Past and Present
- Animals and their benefits to Humans
- Interactions with Animals (Animal Handling and Understanding
Stress) (Practical)
- The future and Animal Interactions; an introduction to Animal
Assisted Interactions
- Animals and the Economy
- Animal Perceptions, Ethics & Legislation (Practical)
Who is this course for?
The Human Animal Interactions course is for anyone wishing to
explore the human-animal relationship and its many dynamic elements
in more detail. There is an emphasis towards studying Animal Assisted
Therapy, but this is an interesting course in its own right too.
ELISTA Education is an equal opportunity provider and provides
the Human Animal Interactions Courses without exclusion, although
participants should be aware that this course is delivered at
an equivalent to ‘Level 6’ on the National Qualifications
Framework (www.nfq.ie),
and an academic ability equivalent to Irish Leaving Certificate
is advised.
Progression:
The Human Animal Interactions course offered by ELISTA Education
has a progression option to the specialised course Animal Assisted
Therapy, other employment opportunities within ethical animal
research, enterprise and service provision may also become available
through participation in the course. This course is equally valuable
for pet owners and professionals wishing to learn more.
