ETHICAL ANIMAL USE COURSE
An introduction course in preparation for the study of Animal
Assisted Therapy.
ELISTA Education is pleased to be able to offer a short introductory
course entitled ‘Ethical Animal Use’. This two month
course is predominantly designed for individuals working in social
care, education, nursing care or other professions, who have limited
animal related skill and knowledge, but are interested in utilising
animals in a therapeutic manner for others in their care.
This short home study course specifically concentrates on how
perceptions of animals by social and cultural groups can differ;
how animals came to be domesticated and utilised by humans, general
and specific animal care, handling, husbandry, communication and
welfare, as well as an introduction to the role of animals as
‘therapists’, ‘teachers’ and ‘healers’.
This course runs over two months as a home study programme.
Participants are required to conduct some practical and theoretical
research as part of the module tasks.
This course can be started anytime, but must be completed by
31st July in order to progress to the Animal Assisted Therapy
course the following September.
Course Fee:
€250. This course can be used as an entry onto the ELISTA Education
Animal Assisted Therapy Advanced Progression Course (subject to
availability) which will subsequently cost €650. Learners will
also be exempt from the first two days training of the Animal
Assisted Therapy Programme.
